Various Positions by Martha Schabas
$22.00, Doubleday Canada

Too bad the psychosexual thriller Black Swan preceded (and probably overshadowed) this well-executed debut by Toronto author Schabas, which follows an aspiring dancer named Georgia through her acceptance into the Royal Toronto Ballet Academy and a disastrous fixation on a teacher.

This is a book to inhale over a weekend at the cottage - it has the tone of a YA novel and the narrative hinges on either a consensual relationship being consummated or a dark turn of events. It's hard to put down, especially since it's written in accomplished prose.
